How to Turn a Shared Meal into Climate Action

Who will you gather around a table this Earth Month (April) to join the 1 Million Tables for the Planet movement, and celebrate what connects us – good food, shared moments, and a sense of belonging? Good News Veg has teamed up with the PlantPowered Foundation to bring you this joyful — worldwide!– campaign.

The 1 Million Tables invitation is simple: enjoy a single climate-friendly, plant-based meal during the month of April, with people you care about. It can be a simple family meal, a dinner party with friends, a potluck, a meal with your book group, or a night out at a restaurant. Big or small, every table matters.

Why Earth Month? Food plays a powerful role in climate change. Farmed animals contribute approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and require enormous amounts of increasingly scarce water. Yet, no matter what’s happening in the world, each of us can vote for Planet Earth with what’s on our plate … no politicians or legislation needed.

One meal feels small, but it isn’t.

A single plant-based meal may not seem like much. But when tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even a million of us – across the world — cast that vote together, the impact is enormous. How much?

So far, 575 people have registered to participate, from monks in China to wildlife conservation reserves across Africa, restaurants in England, India, and Boston. Collectively, these 575 tables will save:

  • 27,800+ kg of greenhouse gases from being emitted — the equivalent of powering the average American home for about 2.5 years.
  • 1.8 million liters of water — the equivalent of a lifetime supply of drinking water for 1,200 people.

What happens when your table joins the movement:

When you register (it’s free!), you’ll:

  • Receive a Toolkit with crowd-pleasing plant-based recipes, hosting tips, and fun conversation starters,
  • See your table appear as a light on our global map, connecting you with the rest of the world,
  • Understand your impact through a real-time counter that tracks the amount of greenhouse gases and water we are saving, collectively.

See who is already on the 1 Million Tables map, add your table, and don’t forget to follow on Instagram (@1milliontables) for updates.
