WEICE DECIDING TO FREE 9/11 WORKER THEY TRIED TO DEPORT

Construction worker Carlos Cardona developed a respiratory illness from working at the World Trade Center site in the weeks after the 9/11 attack. Nevertheless, last February, shortly after 45 took office and vowed to crack down on immigration, ICE picked up Cardona over a 30-year old conviction. After spending more than four months in a detention center,  Gov. Cuomo gave him a pardon.

WE STATES REFUSING TO TURN OVER VOTER DATA TO 45

45 has created a commission for “voter integrity.” Last week the commission sent a letter to 50 states asking for their voter rolls. So far, governors from Virginia, California, and Kentucky have refused to comply. “At best this commission was set up as a pretext to validate Donald Trump’s alternative election facts, and at worst is a tool to commit large-scale voter suppression,” said Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe.

WE HAWAII FOR FILING FIRST COURT CHALLENGE TO “NEW” TRAVEL BAN

The latest version of 45’s travel ban stipulates that travelers from Muslim-majority countries can only come into the U.S. to visit spouses, parents, children, siblings or sons- and daughters-in-law. Hawaii has filed suit, arguing that 45’s administration cannot enforce a temporary ban against certain relatives.

WE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER FOR WINNING ALABAMA PRISON CASE

Three years ago, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) sued Alabama over the “horrendously inadequate” prison mental health system, which SPLC argued had led to a skyrocketing prisoner suicide rate. Last week, a judge agreed, and ordered a complete overhaul of the system.
